The court concurred with the argument of the CBI counsel that the IAS official who was very influential during the YSR regime could influence the investigations and also threaten the witnesses and also agreed that it was not proper to release Srilakshmi on bail when the investigations were on and all three other prime accused were in jail.Srilakshmi is the accused No-4 in the OMC mining case which had caused a Rs.5100 crore loss to the state exchequer. The high court on Dec 16 had cancelled the bail of V.D. Rajagopal, the former vice chairman and managing director of the state-owned Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) .Rajagopal, former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B.V. Srinivasa Reddy and Rajasekhar, the nephew of Rajagopal all are currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail here in the illegal mining case.
Srilakshmi was questioned by the federal investigative agency for three days after her arrest on November 28 with regard to the alleged favors shown by her in granting iron ore mining leases to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Janardhana Reddy.
The 1988-batch IAS officer was secretary of industries in the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government when OMC was granted leases for iron ore mining in Anantapur district and she had been charged of deliberately omitting the word ‘captive mines‘ in the GO which was exploited for export of illegally mined iron ore all over the Andhra Karnataka border forest belt.
